“Get skilled fast and become versatile. Gain the capability to adapt to your environment and protect yourself no matter where you go.”

Joel Levan

Founder of Radius Factor™

I’ve spent over 33 years in the learning, training and research of personal protection and combat systems (striking, grappling, weapons), each known for their core strengths. This includes proven strategy and tactics for both personal protection and fighting. Running parallel to ongoing learning in combatives and personal protection includes firearm tactics from military and law enforcement professionals, as well as a deep dive into specialized athletic training that enhances mental and physical performance for overall agility and survival.

As an instructor, I’ve been fortunate to teach in the private and corporate sector, as well as to military operators and law enforcement professionals—each in need of specific skill sets, tactics and timelines for skill assimilation.

The way in which we learn is important.

Not only does effective self-protection and combatives training methods affect the learning experience, design principles have an important role in learning.

Having experience in Systems Thinking and Design Thinking, it’s my philosophy that what you design should be as simple as possible, without losing its core essence.

That’s where Radius Combatives™ comes in.

Radius Combatives™ is the self-protection and combatives program of Radius Factor, my design, survival, and preparedness consultancy. The goal: to develop an essential self-protection and combat skills program designed to identify context, pinpoint what’s needed for survival, simplify learning, maximize performance, and effectively adapt to non-lethal and life-threatening scenarios using proven training methods and tactics. In essence, an environment is created to develop capabilities through knowledge, training, research, special collaborations, design, and a proving ground.

That which can adapt will survive.
